DescriptionAn open-ended resource to use as a maths starter activity. A mini multiplication grid showing a 4 X 4 random array. The grid can be quickly customised to an appropriate level for the pupils. Each product can be revealed and then hidden again by clicking on the appropriate grid cell.
 
ObjectiveY6T1 Unit 1 Place value
Objectives:
• Multiply and divide decimals by 10 or 100 integers by 1000, explain the effect.
Y6T2 Unit 2 Multiplication and division 1
Objectives:
• Use known facts and place value to consolidate mental multiplication and division.
Y5T3 Unit 3 Multiplication and division 2
Objectives:
• Use the relationship between multiplication and division.
• Use known facts and place value to multiply and divide mentally
Y4T1 Unit 9 Multiplication and division
Objectives:
• Extend understanding of the operations of multiplication and division and their relationship to each other and addition and subtraction.
Y4T3 Unit 10 Multiplication and division 2
Objectives:
• Begin to know: multiplication facts for 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables.
• Derive quickly division facts to 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables.
 
AssessmentThe resource very much depends on teacher questionning skills. For example a teacher may reveal two integers and ask the pupil to find the product, or they may reveal a dividend e.g. 30 followed by a divisor e.g. 5 and ask pupils to establish the quotient.
 
Prior KnowledgeUnderstanding of the concept of multiplication.

Developing understanding of place value.
 
ExpectationsEngage and motivate pupils in their multiplication work.

TRE comment Versatile - A versatile resource that could be used in a variety of ways and for a wide range of abilities. Its value lies in its simplicity as it is easy to use, clear to view and does exactly what you would expect of a worthwhile interactive multiplication grid.
