TRE comment Second version now available - Following a request from Rhona Dick I have created a second version that uses the terminology "improper fraction" rather than "top-heavy fraction" to go with the numeracy framework. Both versions are available from the linked webpage.

Feel free so send me any comments or suggestions if you want to see tweaks to this, or any other resources on my website.

TRE comment Alternative versions - Neil has helpfully included two versions of the spreadsheet, one using the terminology "top-heavy fractions" and the other "improper fractions" so that you can download the one that is suitable for your school. The NNS using the term "improper fraction".

I have included some simple ideas to help primary school teachers make good use of this spreadsheet in their teaching. This program is most suitable for using in Years 5 and 6, but it could also be used in Year 4.

MS Word Converting mixed numbers to improper fractions - Some ideas, including questions for assessment, for using this spreadsheet.
