MaterialsMS Word Worksheet 1. Changing Pastimes. - This worksheet encourages children to compare how they play with how children played and spent their time in Victorian times. It makes links with the technologies avaiable today vs. those of the Victorian period.

Website Cautionary Tales by Hillaire Belloc - Site has poems by Hillaire Belloc including some from his from his book of Cautionary Tales published in 1907.

Website Matilda Who Told Such Dreadful Lies - For Matilda Who Told Such Dreadful Lies--delightul if rather gory poem.

Website George Who played with a Dangerous Toy - For the poem George Who played with a Dangerous Toy, and suffered a Catastrophe of considerable Dimensions.

Website Victorian Optical Toys - This site has a good collection of Flash animations of Victorian optical toys.

Website Philosophical Toy World - Enter the Philosophical Toy World. Click on the toy window and then the Felix the cat zoetrope. If you hold your mouse down at the right end of the picture strip you can make it move and gradually appear to be animated.

MS Word QCA Unit 11 Activity 5 How did different Victorian children use their spare time? - This lesson plan gives ideas on how to each children about the pastimes of Victorian children using the attached worksheet and Victorian/Edwardian poems (see websites).
