Alan Rodgers, one of our TRE moderators, has been busy contributing a batch of teacher-friendly geography resources.
Seasonal weather chart helps pupils to present weather data in a way that enables analysis.
The basic chart is for a five-day input on weather data collection or it could be used for five separate days of data collection over the year. Children also learn how to use a spreadsheet.
Moderator Dan Bunker found this a useful starting point for data analysis and further work on weather patterns. It is 'ideal for teachers who don't have the time or know-how to set up their own spreadsheet, as this one has all the formatting, charts and so forth that you're likely to need'.
Other ideas from Alan for Key Stage 2 classes include:
- Village settlers - this set of IWB files provides the basis for building an imaginary settlement as part of work on Geography QCA Unit 9, Village settlers.
- Magnetic compass practice - a simple worksheet to support practice with a magnetic compass and understand the eight points of the compass. It could also lead to some interesting orienteering work in PE.
- Tornado - a MS Word document containing lots of links to material on the internet about this increasingly common phenomenon. Keep an eye on the cow!
